Unique store coupons let every recipient get their own single-use discount code, created directly in your connected Shopify or WooCommerce store at send time. Unlike a shared code like WELCOME10, unique codes cannot leak to coupon sites, and you can see exactly who redeemed.
How it works
- On a campaign or on a Send Email step in an automation, enable Unique store coupon and configure the recipe: which store, discount type and amount, validity period and a recipe key
- Place the
{{coupon_code}}merge tag in your email where the code should appear (it also works in the subject line) - At send time the platform creates a real discount code in your store for that recipient and merges it into the email
If the email does not contain {{coupon_code}}, no code is created.
No code, no email
When a recipe is enabled and the email contains {{coupon_code}}, the email is only sent after the code has been created in your store. If the store cannot create it (the store is unreachable, the connection has lost write access, or a temporary error occurs), that recipient's email is held back and retried automatically, up to three attempts in total. If all attempts fail, the email is marked as failed with the reason, so nobody receives an email with a missing or empty discount code.
This only applies to emails with a unique coupon recipe. Emails without a recipe are not affected by your store's availability.
Reuse rules
Codes are reused per person, per store, per recipe key:
- The same subscriber going through the same flow again gets the same live code instead of a new one
- A different store always gets its own code, even with the same recipe key
- When a code has expired, a fresh one is issued on the next send
Shopify specifics
Where possible, Shopify codes are restricted to the recipient: if the email address matches an existing Shopify customer exactly, the price rule is bound to that customer. Recipients without a Shopify customer account get a normal single-use code that anyone could technically redeem once - this limitation is shown in the UI.
WooCommerce specifics
WooCommerce codes are created through the MailingPlatform plugin connection and restricted to the recipient's email address.
Tips
- Keep the validity window realistic (7 to 14 days works well for abandoned cart and welcome flows)
- Use different recipe keys for different flows so a welcome discount and a winback discount never collide
- The code appears in the recipient's email only; you can audit issued codes in your store's discount overview
- An order that redeems a unique code is credited to the campaign or flow that issued it, even if the buyer checks out with a different email address or more than 5 days after clicking. In a flow it is credited to the specific Send email step that sent the code, so the revenue shows on that step in the flow editor. See how revenue is attributed
- Test emails never create a real code. With a recipe enabled, the test shows a sample such as
WELCOME-TESTso you can check the layout; without a recipe, a block wrapped in{% if coupon_code %}stays hidden, exactly as it will on send
